Parents

All my life I have been fortunate enough to have a very good relationship with my parents they support me, give me valuable advice and teach me a lot about the way I should live my life. Parents can be very important teachers in our lives. However, they may not be the best teacher.

Parents may be too close with their children in term of emotions and feelings. Sometimes they look at their children with the eyes of protectors. For example, they may limit their children’s freedom by considering about children safety. While the teacher may think that travelling to big cities will be new valuable experiences for children, parents have an opposite view that it may be too risky for their children.

Another problem is that parents my participate that their children have interest similar to theirs. They seem to be unable to separate their children from their feelings and thoughts. If they like science, they may try to push their children really like art, writing or fixing cars.

Parents usually cultivate their values in the mind of their children. The question is whether the children should be attached to what they believe. Sometimes, a gap of age results in different viewpoints. When their children were young, they usually thought that their parents were always  right. However, when they grow up, they will see many different perspectives. Sometimes parents cannot adjust themselves to rapid changing social and technological changes. For example, students who have friends of different races and backgrounds at school may find that their parents have short-sight perspectives. Student who like computer may also discover that their parents do not understand and realize the importance of digital revolution.

In sum, what is the most important thing to remember is that we all have many teachers, such as our parents, teachers and our friends. Besides, books, newspapers and television also teach us. Both these people and media have given valuable thoughts and viewpoints to our lives.
